Hyatt Regency Suites Palm Springs
The Hyatt Regency Suites Pam Springs is located at North Palm Canyon Drive right across the street from the convention centre and only steps away from the Palm Springs Art Museum and the main street with a wide range of different restaurants.
Palm Springs airport is a five minutes drive and the hotel offers complimentary airport shuttle between 07:00 and 22:00 on a first comes first serves base. Call the hotel if you have more than two pieces of luggage or travel with more than two persons, as the hotel usually picks up with a sedan and not a van and more than two persons and / or a lot of luggage does not fit into the boot of the Chrysler 300M. If you arrive by car from the Greater Los Angeles area follow Interstate I 10 to exit 112 for Palm Springs and then highway 111 which goes direct to the hotel. Depending on the traffic a drive from LAX could take up to four hours in peak traffic time. The hotel offers a parking garage underneath the hotel, which is 15 USD for self parking and 22 USD for valet parking. In and out permission is granted for both. An elevator leads from the parking level to the lobby.
The hotel has 197 rooms which are all at least two room suites with separate living and bed room. The building has six floors (five if you use the European counting with 0 being the ground floor) and is shaped like a ‘Y’. The ‘V’ part of the building is atrium style and the higher floors are set back in a sort of terrace style building. In a certain way, the building has some potential as an architectural landmark and it is for sure a nice change from many average hotel buildings.
The lobby is atrium style and very airy and bright with a glass front to the street. Next to the entrance is the elevator to the parking, an ATM and a computer for printing boarding passes as well as a Hertz self renting machine.
The two check-in desks are across the main entrance and usually staffed with two agents, but have places for four agents, so a full occupancy should not be a problem. Only a few lounge chairs - or seating elements - are available right in the lobby but there are a few additional ones on the left and right side of the lobby.
Two glass elevators in the lobby lead to the floors with a separate third elevator on the right side.
The bar “Share Wine Lounge” is next to the check in area and open to the lobby with open air seating to the pool deck. The bar is as its name suggests designed in a lounge style way with seating elements rather than chairs and small tables. There is a bar styled desk for standing in the middle of the room. Chairs and tables are available though on the terrace, which is covered by sun shades in summer. The Lounge is serving small breakfast items in the morning and also serving the pool area. The real bar is open from 16:00 to 23:00 and the food offerings are the same more or less the restaurant. Between 17:00 and 19:00 a small selection of appetizers are available which are vegetables and chips with different kind of dips and a selection of hot items, e.g. springrolls, chicken wings, etc. The appetizers are covered by the resort fee.
The main restaurant “Share Small Plate Bistro” is in the atrium and open. Therefore everybody from the corridors and hallways leading to the rooms on the higher floors can look down in the restaurant. The restaurant is in so far not the right place, if you prefer a more private seating. It is however possible to create a separate and more private space in the restaurant as there are some kind of cubicles which could be closed by curtains. The food offerings are mostly international main dishes with a good selection of salads and lighter choices. The portions however are really big and half size portions available. The wine selection covers US wines as well as wines from Italy and France, not so much from Germany or Australia. Breakfast is served here as well, which is a continental buffet if the occupancy of the hotel justifies it with additional hot items on the menu. If the occupancy is low, there is only an a la carte dining. Continental breakfast is 15.95 USD and full American breakfast is 20.95 USD (both prices excluding taxes and tip). The American Buffet is the continental and one hot item from the menu. The continental breakfast is free for Hyatt Goldpassport members holding Diamond status and includes a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, chesses, bagels and toast as well as coffee, tea and juice.
The design of the hotel after its refurbishment is modern using a warm color scheme with dark and light brown colors, sometimes with orange elements. It is very well done and matched the style of the hotel. I like it, though it is not unique for this hotel but some elements are also used in other hotels of the Hyatt chain, e.g. the Hyatt Santa Clara.
The pool is a trapeze shaped pool surrounded by sun chairs with a separate Jacuzzi. The area is not so much resort styled but using a lot of concrete. However, the use of brown colors with trees and water elements between the different parts of the pool and sundeck making it surprisingly not as worse as one could imagine. There are nicer parts of sure, but if the area is not too crowded, it is a nice place to spend a few hours, however not the whole day. Given the fact, that the hotel is right in Palm Springs and not in a suburb with more space around the hotel, it was the best doable at this place. Nevertheless I think a resort fee is not really appropriate for this hotel in comparison with e.g. the other Hyatt hotel. The pool is open from 06:00 to 22:00, but the opening hours are not enforced. The pool is cleaned daily in the morning. Towels are provided.
A gym is located on the second floor and equipped with modern machines by Life Fitness. There are several treadmills, bikes, steppers, machines for body training, weights and yoga mats. The gym has windows and offering day light. The machines are state of the art including option for connections of iPods and have built in TV screens. Headphones for the tv screens at the bikes and treadmills, towels and water are provided. The gym is open 24/7.
A Business Center is available on the ground floor.
The hotel offers 11 meeting rooms with built in motorized screens, sound system and microphones as well as 110 & 220 V power outlets. Receptions for up to 275 persons are no problem and some rooms open to the lower pool deck or a terrace at the upper pool deck.

I arrived at the hotel quite late at 19:45. I drove there from Los Angeles and the traffic was slow. It took me around three hours to reach Ontario before the traffic was less worse and it was possible to really drive and no stop and go. I parked the car in the hotel parking as it was hot, but it would not have been difficult to park the car in the street behind the hotel. I was friendly greeted by the only agent at the desk and asked for my name. After I gave my name, he found the booking and showed me the prefilled form, asked me to check everything and asked for a credit card and my ID. I signed the prefilled form and got the keycards to my room in exchange and was also asked if I need a late check out at 14:00. He explained the features of the hotel like opening hours of gym and pool and it was mentioned, that the resort fee was waved being a Hyatt Goldpassport Platinum member.
I was assigned a room on the sixth floor overlooking the golf course with a side view to the pool deck.
The room was like every room in this hotel a suite consisting of living room and bed room. After stepping into the room, one was right in the living room. There was a window to the hallway, which could be closed with a curtain. As everybody passing the hallway outside of the room at the atrium on the way to their rooms could look into the living room the most people had closed their curtain. This however means the living room became quite dark. This was not so much a problem if you have a room more far away from the elevators, as there less people will pass your room.
The living room featured a sitting area with an ottoman and a “sitting element” in front of the sofa which can double as table, though you did not want to place a glass on it. A desk on the other side doubled as working desk with telephone, lamp with four power outlets and place for the flatscreen TV. The design was using a dark brown color scheme, which was on the one hand warm and nice; on the other side it made the room even darker as it was already missing bright sun light, especially if the curtains were closed. The design however was modern and I liked it. The pictures at the wall did not really match the style of the room; more modern designed pictures would have been better.
Between the desk and adjacent sideboard and wall was some space and there some papers, even a fork lying on the floor with some dust. Not very nice, but it was difficult to keep this area clean – in a certain way a design malfunction.
A small hallway led to the bedroom. Here was the closet located, which also hosted safe and iron with ironing board. The bathroom was also located between living and bed room. The bathroom used light brown tiles and had a sink, bath and toilet and was above average size. There was a lot of space to store belongings at the sink with a big mirror behind it. The mirror became foggy after taking a shower. The shower curtain was in good condition while the shower head was not the best and in need for a replacement. Towels were provided for three persons and bathroom amenities were lotion, shampoo and conditioner, no bath gel but bath soap.
The bedroom featured a king bed with two bedside tables with lamps on each of them. An iPod docking station was on one of them while a telephone was on the other one. A balcony with two chairs and a table could be accessed from the bed room offering nice views to the golf course and the mountain. There was no noise from the street. The mattress was okay. A second flat TV was placed on a sideboard in the living room.
The design of the bedroom was the same as in the living room.
Both rooms were clean, but some details were not as nice and certainly not what you expect in a Hyatt like a loose wallpaper in the bathroom and also in the bedroom. There were also a few scratches visible, but nothing serious. It helped for sure, that the room uses darker colors making is more difficult to spot scratches and stains. The rooms were not very well soundproofed and noise from within the hotel could be heard very well.
Wireless internet was offered, unfortunately no wired internet. The speed was quite good and it was possible to use a VPN network without much problems.
Air condition could be controlled for each room individually and worked automatically. There was no draught in the bedroom and the air condition does not make much noise but one could hear the air condition if it was on. It was however possible to shut the air condition down, as the rooms were not that hot.
Two bottles of water were provided and a fridge was located in the hallway between living and bedroom with the tea and coffee facilities.
A late check out till 14:00 was offered during check in and I made use of it. The folio was prepared in the night before. Check out was fast and efficient and I was asked if everything was okay. I mentioned the dust between desk and wall and the agent apologized and made a note to clean it.

I arrived at the hotel around 16:45 after a hiking tour and a bit exhausted. I had not changed clothes and was still in my dusty hiking shorts and shirt, not the perfect attire for checking it. Of course, this was not a problem. The reservation was found in the system and I had only to show credit card, ID and sign the prefilled form. The features of the hotel like opening hours of gym and pool were explained and it was mentioned, that the resort fee was waved being a Hyatt Goldpassport Platinum member.
I was again assigned a room on the sixth floor overlooking the golf course with a direct view to the pool deck. The location of the room not at the atrium part of the hotel, it was further to the right and could be reached over a balcony style corridor from the atrium part of the hotel. There was a bit more noise during day time, but in the night it should be quieter, as there is no noise from the atrium.
The layout of the room was the same like during my previous stay and they were not many differences in regard to room design and appearance. There was more noise from the pool to be heard in the bedroom but I would not call it disturbing. However in late June, it was very hot and there were only a few people at the pool and it might be more of an issue in peak travel times for Palm Springs. A few scratches were visible at the furniture in the small hallway between living room and bedroom, but there was not dust behind the sideboard in the living room and in general the room was in better condition than the one I had two days earlier.
The bathroom was also the same shape and design, but I would say, it was also in better conditions. Shower curtain and shower head were in very good condition and I assume they had been changed recently, as both looked quite new.
Wireless internet was offered. The speed was good, not as good as in the room during my previous stay but it was possible to set up a VPN network without much trouble.
The evening reception was surprisingly not very busy. Vegetables, tortillas and Bolognese style meat were available from a buffet with olives and small pepperonis. Water was also available. I had a few bites from the buffet but was hungry and decided to order a flatbread and a glass of a Californian white wine. Staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was good (and the wine also). I was offered a different white wine which was not on the menu to sample another Californian white wine which was from another region. The prices were okay, it would have not been much cheaper outside.
A late check out till 14:00 was again offered during check in and I made use of it. The folio was prepared in the night before. Check out was fast and efficient

I arrived at the hotel quite late at 22:00 after a canceled flight and the need to rebook through LAX instead of SFO. Therefore I had missed the evening reception. But I was looking forward to my stay here, meaning it was the beginning of a three day vacation in hot weather with simply doing nothing. I was friendly greeted and asked if I had a good arrival. The agent felt sorry as she heard of my delay and I was offered to use the pool despite the fact it was about to being closed.
The features of the hotel like opening hours of gym and pool were explained and it was mentioned, that the resort fee was waved being a Hyatt Goldpassport Diamond member. Breakfast time was mentioned as the voucher for the breakfast was given.
I was assigned a room on the sixth floor overlooking the golf course with a side view to the pool deck. The room had the same layout and appearance as the rooms during my previous visit in 2011. The showerhead was okay, but this time two tiles were a bit loose, nothing serious but one could notice it. There was no danger that the tiles fell down.
The mattress was of the same quality than during my last stay and the rooms were also very clean and also the space between desk / sideboard and wall was clean and free from dust.
Breakfast in the morning was okay. I used only the continental selection as I was not very hungry. The service was of average attentiveness. Used plates were cleared but as coffee was placed on my table in a pot I could help myself and there was no need for further attention.
The gym was clean but there was only one headphone left.
A late check out till 16:00 was already offered during check in. Nevertheless I checked out around 14:45 and the folio was presented and only the charge for the parking appeared on the folio. The agent noticed that I was returning to the hotel the next day for another one night stay and asked if I would like to have the same room or get another one. I answered I would prefer to try a different room.

I arrived at the hotel around 15:25 and parked the car in the parking garage underneath the hotel and took the lift up to the lobby level. Check in was busy with other guests checking out but soon later an agent became available. It was the same agent, who checked me out on June 05 and she welcomed me back in the hotel. She remembered me and also, that I choose to have a different room and mentioned she assigned me a room on the fourth floor this time. The reservation was already retrieved from the system, so I had only to show credit card, ID and sign the prefilled form. She also handed over the voucher for breakfast and invited me for the evening reception in the Share Bistro. She asked if I need help with the luggage with I declined.
My room was on the third floor (European counting) and closer to the elevators – and I noticed that it was really a different room, as it was one of the Executive Suites of the hotel. It was not mentioned during check in, but I assume, the agent wanted to surprise me and therefore did not mention the upgrade. And in so far it was a nice and welcomed surprise. As I later passed the front desk in the lobby she smiled at me and asked if I like this room. I told her, I did.
Like the other rooms of this hotel – which are all two room suites with separate living and bathroom – this suite had a separate living room and bedroom as well. But the living room was much larger than this of the standard room. It featured a sofa sleeper; ottoman, dining table for four and wet bar with refrigerator and coffee machine. A large flat TV was placed at a sideboard facing the wall to the living room. A small desk was on the right hand side close to the entrance door of the hotel.
One window was close to the dining table and it could be closed with a curtain. The design of the room was elegant but dark using the same brown color scheme which the other rooms also use; the hotel calls it “desert colors”.
A door on the left side led to the bedroom which was a larger than this of the standard rooms. It featured a king bed with two bedside tables with lamps on each of them. An iPod docking station was on one of them while a telephone was on the other one. There was a mirror with a place to store luggage and an armchair with lamp and table. The large closet also hosted the safe and iron with ironing board.
A balcony with two chairs and a table could be accessed from the bed room offering nice views to the golf course and the mountain. There was no noise from the street but some noise from the pool area.
Air condition could be separately control for the bed room.
The mattress of the bed was of the same quality than during my previous stays. The rooms were also very clean and this room was also well maintained.
The bathroom could be accessed from living room and bedroom. It was very large and had two sinks with larger bottles of bathroom amenities than the standard room. And there was more than enough space to store all necessary utensils. A hairdryer was lying under the sink. The bathroom had also a separate shower stall (a bit dark), a toilet, bidet and a whirlpool bath. Towels were provided by the hotel for three persons. I would have preferred to have a hook close to the shower door. SO it was only possible to place the towel on top of the door to the shower stall. The showerhead was okay and so was the water pressure.
In the evening after I helped myself from the appetizer buffet, I had a glass of white wine with a salad. The quality was good and the ingredients fresh. The service was very attentive and friendly like on my previous visits.
Breakfast in the morning was okay. I again decided only to have the continental selection as I was not very hungry. The service was of average attentiveness. Used plates were cleared quickly but a coffee pot was placed on my table and so I could help myself and there was no need for further attention.
The gym was clean but there was no headphone available this time. Should not happen, that it takes the hotel that long to clean the headphones.
A late check out till 16:00 was offered during check in. Nevertheless I checked out around 15:30 and the folio was presented and only the charge for the parking appeared on the folio.
I was a very enjoyable stay in the Hyatt Palm Springs and I like the hotel and its design despite the little details like loose tiles, wallpaper.
